With summer in full swing, it’s a great time of year to start discussing water conservation with your entire family. With excess sunshine, intense heat, and less frequent rain, water tends to evaporate much quicker now than at any other time of year.

Sprinkler Play and Efficient Water Hoses
During the summer, many children love to get outside and run full-speed through a sprinkler. But water-based activities such as sprinkler play tend to use up more water than you may initially assume.
Luckily, water play does not have to stop. If you have a large garden that you water with a sprinkler, allow your child to get outside and play while it’s on, as long as you make sure you provide your garden with just enough water each day.
A sprinkler should be on for no more than 15 minutes each day. Another chore that your child can help with to stay cool and enjoy some water play is washing your vehicle. Invest in a high-efficiency spray nozzle that allows you to control exactly how much water is being sprayed at any point.
Have Fun While Saving Water with a Game
Games are both fun and educational for kids, so why not turn water conservation into one? Create a bingo card and fill it up completely with water-saving practices like turning off the tap while brushing teeth, or making sure that showers are no more than 5 minutes long.
Once a member of your family has completed an entire bingo card, take the time to treat them to their favorite summer sweet, or give them a couple of days off chore duty. This adds water-saving practices into their everyday routine while allowing them to challenge themselves.
